Connecting with Churches, Equipping for Ministry
Learning and Connecting at CAFO
September brought an opportunity to participate in the CAFO Summit in Atlanta, beginning with Collaborate—two days of learning and conversation with leaders from around the world who share a commitment to children’s well-being. Together, participants exchanged experiences and explored ways to engage local churches in caring for orphans and vulnerable children. It was encouraging to learn from others serving in different contexts while reflecting on our work in Peru.
The summit also offered time to reconnect with ministry friends, meet new organizations, and hear messages that challenged and encouraged us. This year’s theme, “Less: Fewer branches, better fruit,” was a timely reminder that fruitful ministry doesn’t always come from adding more. Sometimes it means allowing God to prune what divides our attention so we can give greater care to what He has entrusted to us.
We returned with much to reflect on as we equip mentors and walk alongside teens and young adults. Please pray for wisdom as we consider how to put these lessons into practice.
Sharing the Heart of Paths of Hope
At the EPC’s Coastal Mid-Atlantic Presbytery meeting at Hope Church in Richmond, Virginia, we had the opportunity to introduce church leaders to Paths of Hope and share how relational mentoring can make a difference in the lives of teens and young adults in Peru.
Our message centered on the conviction that guides this work: in Jesus, God drew near to us in our brokenness, and His love calls us to draw near to others. For a young person, having someone who keeps showing up—ready to listen, celebrate, and walk through difficulties together—can help build trust and a sense of belonging. Mentors don’t need to have every answer, but they can offer a steady presence that reflects God’s love.
We’re thankful for the warm welcome and the opportunity to help churches see how they can be part of this ministry. Your prayers and support help make these relationships possible, connecting young people with caring adults and communities where they can belong.
