An afternoon of bowling! 🎳
Last month the volunteer mentors hosted their quarterly social event for the teens at the Puericultorio Pérez AranÃbar.
Every few months the mentors put on an event for all of the teens who live at the home (regardless if they are currently paired with a mentor or not) to spend time getting to know each other and Paths of Hope as an organization. The hope is that when a mentor is available to be paired with a teen, the concept of having a mentor is a welcomed experience.
This month the teens, staff and mentors left the children’s home and went bowling at a nearby mall. This was the first off-site social event, and it was the very first time all of the teens (and even most of the mentors) went bowling! In a city of 12+ million people, there are only 2 bowling alleys in all of Lima, and it is safe to say that bowling is not a commonly practiced sport here in Peru. Once they got the hang of throwing the heavy ball down the lane, everybody enjoyed trying a new activity and spending the afternoon together in another context.
We are thankful for the donations that make the events like these - whether they are on-site painting afternoons and water balloon games or off-site field trips to the bowling alley - possible. After multiple years of partnering with the Puericultorio Pérez AranÃbar home, we are able to witness the community being formed between the mentors and their mentees and are praying that God continues to bring the right people to volunteer with the Caminando Juntos mentoring program.
